Spontaneous Weekend Getaway in White Pines Forest

Weekend Getaway

Saturday morning, we decided to go camping for the weekend. These last days have been pretty stressful so to be away from the city and surrounded by the nature was the best decision.

White Pines Forest Park is located in the heart of the Rock River valley, it’s a charming 385-acre park in the south of the old Chicago-Iowa Trail. The drive was really cute and I loved the little town along the road.

History tells us that this was for years the principal route east and west across the northern part or the state.

White Pines offers lots of features like the concrete fords (so much fun!) which allow you to drive through the flowing streams. The little hike is nice and quiet, facilities are pretty great for only $10 a night. I would say the only think I wish to find is a lake or a river to swim. So, we decided to go to this so weird camping called « Lake Ladonna » – pretty strange place but so much interesting to see!

We went to Oregon right after to have lunch at Dog n Suds Root Beer Drive In, the typical american food with a great car service. The restaurant is still designed like in the 50s. Super cute and I loved the experience! I’ve just feeled so bad to eat so much junk food and the ice-cream was really huge. A typical American experience!

Cécile lives in Chicago though is originally from southern France. She’s an avid traveler and is always excited by new adventures. After living in Ireland, Australia and Canada, Cécile is an advocate of having a routine but not staying comfortable for too long.
